🏆🌟Westport Vet’s Local Hero Awards🏆🌟🌟🏆🌟🏆🌟🏆🌟🏆🌟🏆🌟🏆🌟🏆🌟🏆
Westport Vets Local Hero Award for South Queensferry May 2020 is Eli Jacks.
.
Westport Veterinary Clinic’s Local Hero Awards has been created to recognise and honour acts of kindness in our local community.
.
🏆During the Covid19 pandemic, Eli Jacks has been using 3D printers to produce protective visor face shields, and donating and distributing them both locally and for NHS staff, frontline, key and essential workers, community nurses, pharmacists, social workers, food service workers, cleaners – any and all workers! Allowing those individuals who are keeping us healthy, safe and fed during this crisis, to be protected and allow them to feel safer in their workplace.
.
❤He has also donated money for a variety of different charities and, although his initial target on ‘Go Fund Me’ was to raise £300 now has raised an incredible over £8000!
.
🌟Money raised has been used to purchase the equipment, such as various 3D printers and the materials required. He has also made donations to local charities, including the Haven, the local food bank, a food bank in Muirhouse, and the Ferry Go-Fors, as well as others!
As well as all of that, he plans to gift printers to the South Queensferry High School Tech Department once the pandemic is over – to repay the generosity of ‘The Ferry Folk‘.
.
😷Many local South Queensferry businesses have received visors made by Eli and the team, including Westport Vets who received visors to protect the veterinary staff working over lockdown.
.
🌟In the first days of the UK Covid-19 Lockdown, Eli did research and explored 3D printing face shields for people who may need them. Discovering several countries were producing ‘home-made’ PPE for health care workers, Eli contacted others in Germany and the Philippines to discuss different designs.
.
🌟Requests for his PPE were immediate and fellow 3D printer Julien Gourlay was roped in to help with demand, followed by Travis Meyers – creating the original trio producing the visor masks. Eli’s partner Joleen Perriam, also learned to operate the printers and as requests for face shields poured in, took over the project’s busy administration. The team also includes Eli’s 16 year old Labrador called ‘BC’!
.
🌟Now known locally as the ‘Ferry Masketeers‘ the original group has expanded to include several volunteer 3D printers, laser cutters (which can produce a vast number of very different but equally functional face shields) and have guided those inspired to purchase their own 3D printers. As a group, the ‘South Queensferry 3D Printing Collective‘ also have a dedicated collection courier who brings the face shields to be collated and distributed from ‘Masketeer HQ‘ in South Queensferry.
.
🌟Eli Jacks says:
“The demand has been overwhelming, as has the offers of help. These workers are putting their health and even their lives at risk in order to keep South Queensferry healthy, so we are doing what we can to support them with 3D printing technology.”

“3D printing has, all around the world, proven to be vital during this epidemic. There are ER rooms in Spain, midwives in the Philippines, nurses in Sweden, all using 3D printed face shields, when no other protection is available.”
❤Phenominal acts of kindness created by Eli and a team of incredible people who are working so hard through tough times to ensure the protection and safety of others. So much hard work and time dedicated to this project as well and the upkeep of all the work required for both the demand, supply and distribution of the visors made. The generosity and time donated to a local community, and all individuals, is truely honorable and has had such a powerful and positive impact, helping to protect lives during the global pandemic.
