At Westport Veterinary Clinic we want to make preventive health care easy and affordable, to help you give your pets the best care possible. We believe that prevention is better than cure, rather than waiting until a pet is ill and suffering to put things right. Early diagnosis of health problems will help your pet to live a long and healthy life.

Canine Care Plans

Our dog plans provide year-round protection against all the main ecto and endoparasites: Fleas, Roundworms, Tapeworms, Ticks and Lungworm. The plans also includes yearly booster vaccination cover against Distemper, Hepatitis, Parvo Virus, Leptospirosis as well as vaccination against Kennel Cough (Canine Parainfluenza Virus and the bacteria Bordetella bronchiseptica).

We advise routine vaccination against these diseases as if contracted can very easily lead to fatal consequences. We include the Kennel Cough vaccine as standard on our plans as the variety of bacteria and viruses which cause Kennel Cough spread very easily potentially causing nasty respiratory infections.

Whilst it is true that the risk of picking up the illness is increased when there are a lot of dogs close together, such as when in kennels. Every year we see flare-ups of kennel cough in our non-vaccinated patients, even with lots having not visited kennels. Dogs don’t even need to come into direct contact with each other as the disease can be carried by cough droplets – very much like the human cold and flu.

Look at the tables below to give you an idea on the kind of savings you can make;

Feline Care Plans

The Indoor cat plan provides year-round cover against fleas and roundworm. Despite remaining inside fleas and worms are easily transported into your home, especially if you have other animals who do go outside. We also provide a vaccination against Rhinotracheitis, Calicivirus and Feline panleukopenia viral infections, which is what we advise for all cats (even indoor) as these viruses are easily transmissible.

The Outdoor cat plan provides year-round cover for fleas, roundworm and tapeworm. Vaccinations cover against Rhinotracheitis, Calicivirus, Feline panleukopenia and Feline Leukaemia viral infections. We add in cover against the Feline Leukaemia virus for Outdoor cats as it is a virus easily spread through the transmission of saliva or nasal secretions.

The Hunting cat plan was developed after speaking to leading parasitologists (researcher who studies parasites), who reported to us that cats who are hunters or who spend the majority of their time outside will come across tapeworm infestations much more often. This is potentially dangerous not only for your pets health but also for your own health.

As a result we developed our Hunting Cat plan which covers against Tapeworm monthly as well as year round cover against ticks, with the same vaccination protocol as the Outdoor cat plan.

Rabbit Care Plans

Our Rabbit FOWP includes vaccinations against Myxo + RHD which are disease often endemic in wild populations and often have fatal consequences. We also vaccinate against RHD-2 which is a relatively new disease spreading up through the UK.

During the summer months, flystrike can be a real concern with flies able to cause serious, sometimes fatal damage in 24 hours. Rearguard is a product which helps keep flies away so reducing the risk of Flystrike, for this reason we have included one of these with our FOWP plan.

Rabbit FOWP = £12/month

Pay as you go = £202.56/ year

Savings/ year = £58.56*

  • Savings doesnt include the additional 10% off most in house products and services
