🏆🌟Westport Vet’s Local Hero Awards🏆🌟🌟🏆🌟🏆🌟🏆🌟🏆🌟🏆🌟🏆🌟🏆🌟🏆
Westport Vets Local Hero Award for Linlithgow May 2020 is 16 year old Christie Mcnab.
.
Westport Veterinary Clinic’s Local Hero Awards has been created to recognise and honour acts of kindness in our local community.
.
🌟Christie, who is a pupil at Linlithgow Academy, has dedicated her time each day over lockdown by playing the bagpipes, 2 tunes played out each day from her garden, in an aim ‘to lift the spirits of the local community.’
.
🌟Christies Dad, Fergus Mcnab, has been sharing a video every day of her piping on local social media pages. The first was posted with the message:
“Edinburgh has it’s one o’clock gun we have Christie. Today’s tune, Linlithgows tune “The Roke” and of course Scotland the Brave. We all need some kindness and bravery at the moment.”
.
🏆Christie played for an incredible 66 days in a row over lockdown, even playing the Clarsach (celtic harp) on one day as her throat was too sore to play the pipes. Yet even with feeling unwell she still played two beautiful pieces on this to fulfil her aim of a daily contribution for the local community.
.
🌟Some days the tunes were dedicated in memory of local individuals who have lost their lives. Other days were posted with a message to individuals to ‘keep their chin up’ over lockdown and she even learnt new pieces to fulfill local requests. .
❤A phenomenal act of kindness, not only by lifting local spirits but for a consecutive 66 days without fail! Kindness and generousity in volume, dedicating her own time every day to help others in her local community. For any individual this is an incredible task, but at 16 years old, to be so selfless, thoughtful and mindful of others during such difficult times through the pandemic is admirably outstanding.
.
🌟All 66 days videos have been very well reviewed and greatly enjoyed by the local community as well as around the world! Every day people have gone out their way to leave comments to express their thanks to Christie, with hundreds of daily facebook interactions.
🌍There have even been comments from around the globe who have been tuning in daily, like the following:
“Thanks for lifting our moods”
“I look forward to hearing this everyday”
“Thank you for helping us through these difficult times”
Even being enjoyed as far as Florida!
“Mom also looks forward to these each day, thank you for spreading joy around the globe! “
.
🎼One of the two tunes Christie played daily was the tune of the Royal Burgh of Linlithgow ‘The Roke‘ . The sound of bagpipes, and ‘The Roke‘ in particular, are hugely significant in Linlithgow, with many associating them with local events such as The Linlithgow Marches. A sound, and song, which holds a lot of sentimental value and historical significance in the local community.
.
⭐The Riding of the Marches of the Ancient and Royal Burgh of Linlithgow is a tradition dating back to the 16th century. On the first Tuesday after the second Thursday in June, the whole community comes together to celebrate this tradition which bind the town together with a shared sense of history and local pride.
.
🌟Following advice from the UK and Scottish Governments, Marches Day 2020 and all associated events have been cancelled. However, as it a such a large part of the local community and historic event in the town, a virtual Linlithgow Marches event has been organised.
.
⭐Provost John Cunningham said:
“My wife Myra and I have thoroughly enjoyed listening to Christie play during lockdown.
She has certainly brought some much needed cheer to the people of Linlithgow.
Well done Christie! Rumour has it that she might not be quite finished – tune into the Linlithgow Marches & Deacons Court Facebook page on the 16th of June at 1pm to find out!”
