This Wednesday, Yasmin traveled down to Nottingham Vet School to take part in their CPD ultrasound course, specifically focussing on the abdominal organs.
First, they were shown how to properly set up the ultrasound machine. From selecting the correct probe, to adjusting the frequency and gain, to ensure it was appropriate for each patient and organ. They were allowed to practice on themselves to help with this!
They then systematically went through the dog and cat abdomen and were shown how to locate each organ and how to recognise abnormalities. The allusive adrenal glands were also found!
Some very well behaved staff pets were used as the models and were rewarded with treats throughout.
This course helped Yasmin gain confidence in locating more difficult to find organs and she is excited to get back and get scanning.
