Recently, Sam attended the Masterclass in Canine Endoscopy, an inspiring course designed to elevate diagnostic capabilities in veterinary medicine. Led by the esteemed Philip Lhermette, (who literally wrote the textbook) the training offered a detailed exploration of flexible endoscopy’s potential, leaving Sam eager to bring advanced diagnostics directly to our owners and pets here at Westport Vets.
A Practical Journey into Endoscopy
One of the standout features of the course was its practical focus. It went beyond theory, delving into hands-on demonstrations of advanced endoscopic techniques like biopsies, foreign body removal, and PEG tube placement. Sam left with a clearer understanding of how to navigate the gastrointestinal and respiratory tracts, ensuring precise, minimally invasive diagnostics for pets of all sizes.
Key Highlights
- Enhanced In-House Diagnostics: The ability to offer services like endoscopic biopsies will revolutionise how we approach complex cases, delivering faster and less invasive solutions.
- Tailored Equipment Choices: Selecting the right endoscope, from insertion tube length to biopsy channel size, helped us to prepare to cater to our patient needs.
- Optimised Patient Care: Practical guidance on patient preparation, such as fasting protocols and pre-procedure evaluations, reinforced the importance of meticulous planning protocols.
Future Plans: Bringing Endoscopy Home
This course has solidified our commitment to enhancing in-house diagnostic services. We are actively investing in endoscopy equipment to make these capabilities a reality. Our aim is to provide quicker diagnoses, reduce the need for referrals, and ensure a stress-free experience for pets and their owners. We are excited to see how endoscopy will transform our approach to certain diagnostic and improve outcomes for the pets we treat.
