Brodi was Hugo’s Hero Award 2025 winner for for his compassion and devotion to his family, and for the positive impact he has in their lives.
Brodi is being recognised for the positive impact he has on his owner Lauren’s life. He is her strength, her courage, and her best friend.
Brodi’s owner Lauren McMurray:
“Since getting him 5 years ago at 8 weeks old he’s changed my life so much and continues to have such a big impact on it. He’s my soul dog and my own wee therapy dog.In Brodi I truly have gotten the best friend & best wee dog I could ever have dreamed off.”
“Over the years he has helped me through some of my worst chest infections and asthma flares, always being by my side for cuddles and support. ( and to lick any tears away) He has also helped me cope with being diagnosed with Ehlers Danlos Syndrome, which is a connective tissue disorder that amongst many other things causes joint dislocations and chronic pain.”
“He is my reason to go out on walks every day which helps keep my legs/ knees strong. When I’m having a bad day of chronic pain or fatigue he is by my side giving me cuddles. I have said it from the start he is truly my wee therapy dog. Brodi gets me out at least 4 times a week to a dog training club where we love to continue to learn, train & socialise with other dogs and owners. When I’m not at work my time is spent with Brodi by my side. He has truly had the most amazing impact on my life in the last 5 years and I can’t wait to continue to make so many amazing memories with him.”
“On top of all he has done for me over the last 5 years he has shown the same love to my family. In particular my mum who within the last year has been diagnosed with epilepsy. Brodi was on a walk with my mum when she had a Tonic Clonic Seizure, he stayed by mum mums side and looked after her when she went into the seizure. Thankfully people came to help and it was only when she started to come round that he was happy to be taken into a neighbours house to be looked after. Since her diagnosis he has been a huge comfort to her, as said previously he is like a therapy dog to her too. He comforts her when she isn’t feeling 100% and helps her relax.”
“Every day he makes me laugh with his cheeky wee personality, he gets me out walking, he helps me relax and he just makes me happy.”
“I truly can’t express enough how much Brodi means to not just me but my close family. I couldn’t have wished for a better wee dog. I believe he deserves this award because for the last 5 years he has shown so much love, support and compassion to myself and my family and I think he deserves to be recognised for that. Not all superhero’s wear capes and he is definitely my wee superhero. He has helped me through so many difficult times and I’m proud to have him my by side.”
“Brodi is my best friend, my soul dog, my hero and my whole world.”
