Litter Tray Information

Litter trays are essential for indoor cats but all cats should have access to one. The ideal number of litter trays should be 1 tray per cat PLUS an extra 1 which should be placed in different areas of the house.

Location – litter trays should be placed in an area that is quiet and discrete. It can be helpful to avoid placing them near any doorways or busy areas of the house. Doing this allows your cat to feel safe and ensure the tray cannot be blocked by another pet or human! Trays should also not be placed near food or water bowls, or other resources.

Sizing – the tray should be 1.5x the length of your cat from nose to tail. Your cat should be able to comfortably move and turn around whilst in it. Trays can either be open or covered with a hooded lid. Larger trays allow natural digging behaviours and allow them to eliminate more comfortably.

The cat litter you should select should be unscented, clumping and as close to the texture of sand as possible.
